Minister of Youth Development, Sen. Akinlabi Olasunkanmi has pledged government’s commitment to implementing policies relating to youth development.
Olasunkanmi made this promise at the just-concluded Zonal Consultative Meeting on the Review of the National Youth Policy held at Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State.
Mr. Salami Musibau, assistant chief press secretary of the ministry, stated this in a statement in Abuja.
The statement stressed that this was in line with the Seven-Point Agenda of Mr. President and in addressing the challenges of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
“Olasunkanmi explained that the meeting was designed for building and expanding on the rights-based policies and programmes that help in promoting health development of youths.
“This could be done by providing them with the appropriate knowledge including tools that will afford them opportunities to make informed choices,” it said.
According to it, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, commended the minister in choosing to host the meeting in the state and for inaugurating the maiden Youth Parliament in Abuja.
“An indigene of the state, Mr. Luke Onofiok, emerged victorious as the first Speaker of the parliament,” it added.
Our correspondent reports that out of the six geo-political zones, the review of the national youth policy has been done in four.
