AKWA Ibom State deputy governor, Patrick Ekpotu, has described the donation of drugs and other medical items to victims of Ikot Akpan Udo and Amazaba communal crisis as not only kind but also a timely intervention by the Federal Ministry of Health.
The deputy governor who received the items on behalf of the State Government in Uyo, said the gesture from the Ministry was a clear indication that it was not lagging behind in the overall effort of the President Yar’Adua administration to make life better for the people of Nigeria.
Ekpotu expressed the gratitude of the government and people of Akwa Ibom to the minister of health and members of the team, for providing such needed assistance, which he noted, would go a long way in meeting the medical needs of the people affected by the communal crisis.
Noting that the administration of Governor Godswill Akpabio was people centred, and trying its best to make the victims comfortable, Ekpotu said the affected people, within available resources, have continued to receive assistance from the state government.
The deputy governor said, “while hoping that such crisis does not occur again in the State, the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies should always come to the aid of Akwa Ibom.”
The drugs and items donated included: 30 cartons of oral rehydration salt; one drum of chlorine powder; one carton of panadol; 100 vials (one packet) benzhyphenizol; 100 vials (one packet) chloramphenicol caps; and copies of integrated disease surveillance response.
