25 Jun 2010: Christian George
As 2011 draws nearer, majority of people have already chosen whom they will vote for. Such individuals with an avowed mind would go extra miles to ensure that the candidate of their choice gets into power. This is one of the determinations demonstrated by a community leader in Eket Local Government Area, Chief S.W. Edohoeket, who poured out his mind to journalists in his residence last week that he could not mind paying the supreme sacrifice to ensure that the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio continues in office till 2015.
Chief Edohoeket who had been the Chairman of Eket for three times maintained that he supports the continuity of the present government in power due to the giant strides and laudable projects embarked upon by the present dispensation which had touched every Akwa Ibom person rather than to attract favour from the governor.
The community helmsman confessed that Eket Senatorial District felt abandoned by the previous government who came to power as if the area was not a part of the government. He stressed that the deplorable state of the road at Oron could not be compared with its present motorable nature which is the handwork of the Akpabio led administration. The community leader expressed that Eket Senatorial District would not deprive someone who had made them proud of due appreciation which is one of the reasons he would ensure the re-election of Gov. Akpabio.
“Whatsoever someone would be telling you, I am standing for Godswill Obot Akpabio to go for his second term. I am doing that because I am satisfied with his performance, so no matter what people would tell us, I once told a few people that it was possible for me to even pay the supreme sacrifice for his re-election, I would do it because for quite a while, we in this Senatorial District felt abandoned. It was like we were not part of any government at all. You from Oron, remember the roads we used to have in Oron, and see what is happening now. There is no way you will not think that we are now part of the government “For those of you who are from Ikot Abasi, you see what is happening and we here in Eket we don’t hide our delight about what the governor has done for us. That is why each time we talk to people, we encourage them to have in mind that we have Godswill Obot Akpabio to support.
While working, we should also have in mind that Godswill Akpabio will be returned come 2011. “I am supporting Godswill Akpabio even if he does not give me the money; I don’t want the money. People will say come he will give you transports, what do I do with that? I want to support him even if he does not come to us. Even if he does not give us money, we will support him because he had been good with us. We, in Eket Senatorial District have benefited from this government so much unlike the past”. Moreover, he revealed that the brain behind his Moxie and ardent support for Gov. Akpabio is not unconnected with zoning principles with the view to unanimously allowing someone from Eket Senatorial District to rule as the governor after 2015.
Chief Edohoeket reiterated that Annang should be given a chance to complete its tenure as postulated and practiced so that power could rotate, without any hitches, to Eket Senatorial District. In his words, “we know the problems of the State, but we insist that he must go back for his second term so that the Annangs could finish their own term. When they are through, government will come to Eket Senatorial District, the Orons, the Eket, the Ikot Abasi, the Ibenos, the Obolos and all of them will all have to enter into a strategic alliance to also make sure that government returns to our senatorial District which we would benefit from. You know, we can begin to say so many things now that people have owned this government to their side but it will come a time that we would also own the government” he continued. |
