Almost near completion of road projects started by Governor Godswill Akpabio, he has flagged off another round of road construction projects in the state. In the latest round of roads construction, Abak local government will not get less than 19 urban roads.
While inaugurating a 900 meter road at Nursery School Road as well as the reconstructed Park Lane Road by Abak-Ikot Ekpene highway, the governor reiterated that the list of 19 new roads to be constructed excludes the Ukpom General Hospital road which would be taken up separately.
Chief Akpabio indicated that the two roads were inaugurated as samples in construction of the expected 19 road networks, adding that his administration would also direct the construction of Nsekke-Etim Ekpo-Ikot Akpan Nkuk axis road.
He also said that as the vision of his administration is to initiate projects and complete them, the 19 road networks would commence and be completed by December this year. The governor advised the people of Abak to remain resolute in their support for his administration rather than being deceived any longer by politicians without substance of their promise.
The governor declared that Akwa Ibom will establish a naval post-primary educational institution in the state. He said the site of the post-primary school would be at Ikot Abasi local government area. Chief Akpabio maintained that his administration would embark on the construction of the institution to completion before handing over to the Federal government.
The Naval Secondary School would be taken up to complement the Police Unity Secondary School which is near completion at Essien Udim. He explains that the state’s involvement in the establishment of the two educational institutions was to promote national unity in Nigeria.
In the same vein, Chief Godswill Akpabio at a rally held at Bishop Clark Memorial Primary School Abak accepted the sponsorship of his second term governorship bid in 2011 by the youths of former Abak Division. The governor who was accompanied by his wife and First Lady, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, said the desire for his sponsorship by the youths will be backed up with hard work to see the governorship ambition to the end.
Chief Akpabio also said that in the 2007 governorship race, there were 57 aspirants and none died, noting that the symbolic sword of authority given to him by the youths would be used in protecting the mandate. He explained that the many achievements of his administration in the last three years were realizable through prayers by the people and the trust on his administration based on executed projects.
He also advised the youths not to assess benefits from the government in terms of placement of funds in their pockets but from projects delivered for them in health care delivery, roads reconstruction, electricity and general infrastructure.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, two residents, Mr. Okon Edet and Ubong Etukudo, thanked the governor for keeping his promises made during the election campaign to Abak people.
