New Nigeria Initiative Inaugurated in AKS

Akwa Ibom Chapter of the New Nigeria Initiative, a socio-political group in the country, has been inaugurated with the state commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Etok Ekanem as the state coordinator and Bishop Sam Akpan as Secretary.

The movement with the aim to bring about a greater, better and regenerated Nigeria, where basic needs of life would be available was inaugurated by the national chairman of the group, Chief Dickivie Ikiogha who told the gathering in Uyo that the group is interested in young leaders who can deliver on election promises and not with questionable past.

He said apart from evolving strategic changes in the way of governance, but building a nation which the generation of unborn Nigerians will be proud of.  His group was also interested in making public institutions to work maximally.

Chief Ikiogha declared the group’s support for the present administration, both at the national and state levels. He thanked the state governor Chief Godswill Akpabio for his achievements and for making things to work in the state which he said has witnessed tremendous change.

The state chapter coordinator of the New Nigeria Initiative Professor Ekanem, thanked the group for including Akwa Ibom in its agenda. Professor Ekanem stated that Akwa Ibom is blessed with a government that is duly elected and is performing to the satisfaction of the electorate.

In his contribution, the state secretary of the movement Bishop Sam Akpan recalled the history of emergence of the state governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio and assured that they are committed to work for his re election in 2011.

Chief Godswill Akpabio again assured the people of his resolute to leave the state better than he met it and to Uyo Local Government Area he avowed of his Administration’s commitment to provide basic amenities that would make the city a befitting State Capital and thereby inaugurated projects executed through the interministerial direct labour coordinating committee in the local government.

Chief Akpabio who was represented by the special adviser, Bureau of cooperative Development, Mr. Saviour Udo,  expressed satisfaction with the peaceful disposition and solidarity given to the administration by the people of Uyo.   

He urged them to maintain the spirit of unity and love and shun negative vices that are capable of tarnishing the image of the state. The commissioner for finance and chairman, Interministerial Direct Labour coordinating committee, Mr Bassey Albert Akpan said the committee would continue to intervene in those communities that lack basic infrastructure.

The chairman of Uyo local Government Dr Chris Nyong also described the infrastructural development by the present administration as unprecedented and assured the governor of the people’s support come 2011.
