Youths from Eket and other local government areas making up Eket Federal Constituency, comprising Eket, Esit Eket, Onna and Ibeno came together and passed a resolution to organize a solidarity rally in honour of Governor Godswill Akpabio for a second term in office come 2011. The resolution is based on what they termed his unprecedented development of the area and the entire state.
In an enlarged youths meeting held at Lifestyle Sports Bar in Eket town recently, the youths also urged all the aspirant challenging Governor Godswill Akpabio in the 2011 election to shelve their ambition for 2011 general election for the office of the governor, this according to them is based on the overwhelming achievements recorded by the current administration in the state.
In a unanimous motion moved by Mr. Iniobong Udotai of ward 4 central and seconded by Mr. Ime Daniel of ward 3 Urban, all the youths supported the resolution. In declaring their total support for the governor, the youths recalled that since the creation of the state, they have never for once seen or had it as good in terms of infrastructural development by the government as led by this administration.
While acknowledgement is given to the unprecedented number of roads constructed in Eket, Esit Eket and Onna local government areas by the administration of Godswill Akpabio, they also mentioned the General Hospital at Ibeno and the renovated Immanuel General Hospital at Eket as some of the landmark achievements of Akpabio’s good governance. According to them, Governor Akpabio deserves support of all the youths and elders of the Federal Constituency to encourage him to do more for the areas.
The rally according to them is a follow up to the solidarity march around Eket a few weeks ago when one of the aspirants, Senator John Akpanudoedeghe attempted to berth his campaign sail in Eket. They however urged the governor to live up to his tag of promise-keeper when he assumes office next year for the second term by ensuring that the moribund industries in the area are resuscitated in order to provide employment to some of them.
While thanking the youths for their maturity, sense of reasoning and support, Mr. Usoro I. Usoro, Chief press secretary to Governor Akpabio, said his boss is ever committed to the task of providing qualitative and people-oriented leadership.
Mr. Usoro, an indigene of the area, also commended the youths for contributing to the peace and security of the Federal Constituency. He also welcomed the idea of the rally in honour of his boss solely sponsored by the youths and promised them that Governor Akpabio will continue to astonish them with good things of life.
