Shooting Star |
The End of Ethnic Disparity |
Governor Akpabio from his first shot at public service in 2001 introduced the
cutting edge that delivered the beauty of selfless service, the betterment of
people, sustainable management of resources and people integration.
As Governor of Akwa Ibom State from May 2007 His Excellency's delivery has
simply been terrific that he has become an enigma, binding the people together,
making them dynamic, productive, and prosperous: Then unifying them by toning
down tribalistic tendencies, promoting ethnic stability, peaceful coexistence,
fighting the scourge of nepotism, partnering labour unions, promoting conflict
resolution, and ensuring an independent electoral process.
The governor strongly believes that cultural diversity is as necessary for
humankind as bio-diversity is for nature and strongly promotes sustained support
and informed action from all cultural perspectives for homogenous development of
the state and a modern sustainable society.
While the governor has achieved a
remarkable feat in reducing poverty, promotion of human rights, and increased
sustainable development it should be noted that had been possible on account of
the governor's tact in aligning the people's culture with nature.

The governor schemed his unifying agenda into infrastructure deployment so that
no part of the state feels forgotten or marginalised. This moved the governor to
place on top priority the immediate rehabilitation of Abak-lkot Ekpene Road,
lwukem-Etim Ekpo-Afaha Obong Road, Nung Udoe- Use lkot Amama Road, Etebi Enwang
Road and Enin Nsit. These are historic roads - long neglected - that have opened
up a very significant part of the Akwa Ibom community to the world and linked
millions of citizens to civilisation.
According to the
International President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, Dr Sylvester J. Akpan,
"Akpabio had done much to unite the state more than ever", while President of
National Association Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Smart Olalekan Edwards
said "ethnic disparity had been wiped out in the state" What Governor Akpabio
has given Akwa Ibom people with his agenda of unity is one purpose, one destiny,
one voice.
